The heroes say goodbye to the guard, and continue on the path out of town. They pass the remnants of a few old carriages that had broken down either due to bandit attacks, or simply given up due to weathering. Birds picked at the skeletal remains of animals that had been chased out of town, scattering as the heroes drew closer.

While the way they had ventured into the village from was mainly forested, the path they were on now quickly changed into swampland. The ground grew muddier, and a foul stench hung over their heads. The swordsman hero had anticipated this, and had acquired some cloth from the town. They covered their faces to avoid breathing in the smell, and trudged onward.
